Travel from Florence to Liguria with an English-speaking guide such as Ado, Chris, Joanne, or Claudia. Visit all five Cinque Terre villages with a guided Corniglia to Vernazza hike, or choose three villages plus Pisa. Expect trains, steep steps, free time, and a possible coastal boat ride.

He answered all of our various questions and spoke English really well. We decided to do the cable car option ($30 each) and then trek ourselves to the crater created during the 2001 eruption (instead of the Jeeps which would have been another $38 each)… very happy with that decision since clouds rolled in blocking the Jeep’s panorama viewpoint. Join a small-group hike from Catania into Mount Etna’s Valle del Bove. “The vulcanologist guide was very knowledgeable. The hike was quite rigorous, very windy and cold, but stunningly beautiful. The group size was a little too large, meaning you have to push to the front to hear the guide or miss out on the information, but this seemed true of all the guided groups.”

He pointed out wild oregano, thyme and rosemary. He gave us history on the area including stories of sirens. We saw goats and had a lunch with entertainment at the shepherd’s house. The walking poles provided were a necessity.”

“Great organisation from the guide. Good communication before hand. 1 hour drive to the start of the walk. The walk itself was pretty easy. 3.6 miles with a few gentle climbs and descents. No great exposure, the path was wide and well maintained. The walk can be easily managed in trainers. The guide was very well informed and provided interesting information and local incite. The walk stops at a Shepard's hut for a light snack with wine and some folk singing. A tip is expected so bring some cash. Take a bus from Via Roma 32 in Pompeii to 1,000 meters on Mount Vesuvius, then walk the gravel switchbacks to the crater rim. This self-guided visit gives you about 90 minutes in Vesuvio National Park for views of Naples, Pompeii, Capri, Ischia, and the Mediterranean.
